Looking for something special to give those special someones this holiday season? Mark your calendar to play hooky from your job on Tuesday, December 7th, and come to Delta College’s annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show. Featuring over 90 local artists and venders, the Arts and Craft show will monopolize the main corridors of Delta’s campus from 9:00 in the morning until 3:00pm. Parking and admission are free.

What are they selling?

Fused glass jewelry, soy candles, appliquéd clothing, soap gift sets, knitted and crocheted items, greeting cards, and Christmas gift baskets are just a few of the handmade treasures available at the show. Where else would you find hand-painted clothing?

Also on sale will be novelties from local entrepreneurs, ranging from floral arrangements, antiques, wood-crafted items, and Christmas decorations to Tupperware, Mary Kay Skin Care products and Avon makeup.

Whom does this benefit?

Funds raised at the Arts and Crafts Show will go to Delta’s Collegiate DECA Club, formally known as Delta Epsilon Chi. The club hopes to raise enough money this semester to send their members to the State and National Competitions for Collegiate DECA, where they will meet business leaders, network with fellow entrepreneurs, and gain the real-life experiences that will make them successful in the business world.

"One of the main benefits…is to get students who haven't been in a business environment into one, by having them dress professionally, and act professionally, and learn how to carry themselves in an interview, or at least see what that’s like…so that they can have experiences to prepare themselves for when they have to do it for real," says DECA Club advisor Greg Hubner.

Since a large number of companies send representatives to the competitions, there is also potential for immediate employment for the students who attend.

What can you do to help support Collegiate DECA?

Look for the DECA Bake Sale table at the Arts & Crafts Show, where DECA students are selling homemade Christmas treats for a small donation.

You are also invited to attend DECA's Silent Auction, held at the Delta Main Campus on Monday, December 6th from 9am to 5:00pm. You won't believe the fabulous gifts and bargains that Michigan businesses have donated for you to bid on!

So take a long lunch on Tuesday and shop 'til you drop at Delta's Arts and Crafts Show. And, if you're lucky enough to have time off on Monday, come explore the auction tables for a chance at the perfect gift for the perfect low price.
